Whether you are hoping to get some more work done or just want to relax by watching a movie on your laptop, bringing your laptop into the bed can seem like a good idea. However, using a laptop in bed can lead to a sore back or stiff neck and there are overheating dangers to consider. If you want to make using your laptop in bed safer, consider a laptop table for bed.
One of the most comfortable positions to use your laptop in bed is by lying on your back with your knees raised and to have the computer on your thighs. This position will reduce the distance you have to bend your neck and will leave your wrists in a more natural position for typing. In order to keep your body situated correctly, use a pillow behind your shoulders and head against the wall or headboard. A laptop table for bed can make it easier to find the most comfortable position.
There are some positions you will want to avoid when using your laptop in bed. Avoid sitting cross-legged with your laptop in front of you. This will put stress on your neck when you look down. You could also be hunching over, which puts more stress on your lower back. Lower back pain can also extend into the upper back, down your thighs, and in your legs and feet. Sitting up with your laptop in your lap also creates stress on your neck and puts your wrists in an uncomfortable position. You don’t want to be looking down at your computer for an extended period of time. You also don’t want to lie down with several pillows propping up your head. This puts stress on your neck since it’s almost at a 90-degree angle.
If you place your laptop over the blankets and sheets to keep from heating or burning your legs, it will also insulate the computer. This can potentially damage the components. Many laptops also have a fan on the underside, which a pillow or blanket can block. If your laptop doesn’t get too hot, then it’s okay to place it directly on your legs. If you aren’t able to comfortably place the laptop on your legs, then a laptop table for bed can be a good solution. This keeps the machine on a nice flat and hard surface and prevents it from overheating.
Don’t make it a habit of falling asleep with your laptop since electronic screens can disrupt sleeping patterns. The glow can affect you, even if you are already sleeping with your eyes shut. Turn off the laptop a few hours before bed to notice a difference in your sleep quality. If you are using your laptop in bed, try a nighttime setting.
