Mahogany is a common hardwood from the Swietenia Mahogani family. Variants of the wood are found worldwide and all having very similar properties. Mahogany Wood Trees can grow to a colossal size of 150 fett tall and 6 feet wide.
Hence the smooth texture achieved when purchasing Mahogany boards, the wood is cut from such a large tree than it is not moulded together.
The Wood itself is a rich reddish brown in colour and gets darker over time. The deep red colour is often used as a sign of luxury, hence why antique furniture is often made from mahogany wood. It is preferred by manufacturers because when it gets polished, it has a reddish glow and doesn’t require staining to accomplish a nice colour.
